How to set up a sheet and begin working on a plan

the use of all the tools

once a plan is completed, making elevations

after elevations turning the drawing into a 3-D design with material, a project to use in ones portfolio. In other words, turning into reality.

turning the 3-d into a small movie clip with people in it. If I'm missing any steps, guide us through it.

I purchased Vectorworks because I was informed that it was better than AutoCad, so far it's pretty friendly but I need to learn it from the bigining.

Thank you and I hope this class turns into a reality.

Warm regards,

Galina

Hello Galina

This is the german Vectorworksforum. Therefore it is much easier for us to answer German inquiries. If you want to ask your questions in English, it is also recommended to use the English forum.

If you are lookling for some tutorials, here you finde some in german. I'm sure that there's a similar serie in English.

Freundliche Grüsse

In the ideal case,

you would begin designing and modeling in 3D.

And let VW generate your 2D drawings for you.

So if you are starting with VW from scratch anyway, I would advise to go that

new school 3D path from the beginning.

If you want to go on using your path with starting with 2D for Plan and Elevation,

you will nevertheless draw your 2D stuff on Design Layers (Model Space)

anyway.

No matter if you stay 2D or end in 3D later, your final Drawings,

drawn or generated from 3D Sections with added 2D Annotations,

should exist from Viewports on "Sheet Layers" (Paper Space)

for Printing, PDF or Image Export.

Not to be misunderstood,

it is totally ok to quickly start design by sketching in 2D.

There is nothing wrong with this. Even if you want to work 2D exclusively.
VW has one of the best 2D features around.

But there are so many ways in VW to extrude 2D easily or convert your Lines

into Walls, which are already 3D.

Once you have a basic understanding and feel how VW works, together with

some custom templates and office/project standard, you will get 3D basically

for free in VW without caring while designing in 2D.
